Observation Narrative
This area was logged via narrow gauge railroad 75 years ago, but some large trees (particularly gnarled Betula allegheniensis and Acer saccharum) were spared. The current stand is a mixed northern hardwood forest of more or less average composition for the region. An unusually sparse herb layer here may be due to deer browsing.
Plot located in Quebec Branch area, just west (upslope) of the Appalachian Trail at a point ca. 0.3 mi southwest of the northern park boundary and 0.9 mi NNE of Massie Gap.
